Unilever

THESIS

The last half-year of the study Communication International Event, Music and Entertainment Studies consist of an graduate internship at a company you can chose by your own. For the company of your internship you had to write a thesis. Before this internship, I have done an internship at a bank. For this internship I have chosen another branch what suits me, to explore which branch I prefer. That’s why I have looked for an internship in the event branch. I had the opportunity to do an internship at Unilever, a multinational fast-moving consumer goods company. In this internship I have organized a lot of events.

In this thesis I answered the mean question: ‘Which guidelines contribute to the safety of Unilever Benelux events in the next three years?’. This research is especially done for Unilever Benelux. The department Meeting and Events (M&E) currently has not enough knowledge about the enormous amount of guidelines that contribute to the safety of Unilever Benelux events. To this moment it remains unclear to some extent how to handle this in the best and most effective way. Therefore I have examined the current and desired safety guidelines, current safety risks, current and required legislation and regulations and the current and desired stakeholders in the events of Unilever Benelux and other corporate businesses.

This study has been carried by qualitative research. In total there have been conducted thirteen semi- structured in-depth interviews. These interviews were conducted among internal employees of Unilever Benelux and corporate businesses. These corporate businesses consist of ING Nederland, Shell, Unilever Vlaardingen, ASML, ANWB, the Dutch government, Rabobank, Sligro, Amsterdam Arena, Intelligence Security and Buro Plankgas.

The data of the interviews was analyzed by using a ‘code tree’. First of all the sound recordings are fully transcribed. Subsequently, the data is encrypted, so the interview data is organized. The code tree is divided into three columns: key themes, themes and labels. From the key themes arise the themes, and these themes are divided into labels. Ultimately, these labels are divided in the correct categories which are associated with the sub-questions.

Unfortunately I can’t share my complete thesis on this webpage, because the results are confidential. If you want to know more about my thesis, feel free to contact me.
